Autumn is finally upon us, which means that temperatures here in the UAE are going to be getting cooler. Granted, we really only have 2 seasons here in this part of the world: Hot and Hotter! Waking this morning it was hard to escape the shift in temperature and the low-hanging fog throughout Dubai.
It has been a long hot summer, probably the hottest summer of my entire life. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 impact on the globe and our individual lives, we did not get to leave Dubai this summer. No cooling trips to Mexico, the US or the UK to see family and friends, just day after day of 100°F desert bound temperatures.
The silver lining is that the UAE has been managing the pandemic well. Unlike other parts of the world, the country has placed rules and regulations in place that the population has in general followed. The ability for testing, rules on mask-wearing, social distancing and more have gone a long way to keep the positive numbers low when compared to other countries. While we are nowhere near out of the darkness that has swept the world over the past 6 months, we are thankfully in a part of the world where it is being seriously managed and not questioned as some fake news conspiracy.
I am hopeful for the UAE and the world at large that the autumn brings about clarity, clarity that has been missing for too long. May the cooler months not mean spikes in numbers, but the population doing everything in it’s power to follow guidelines and keep new outbreaks at a minimum.
Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Socially distance.
